Google's Latest AI
This week Google announced a new, powerful innovation in the area of artificial intelligence, called Google Duplex. Google Duplex enhances voice recognition technology to the point where it can initiate and hold conversations with humans to accomplish tasks, like setting a hair dressing appointment. What makes this technology so important is its ability to mimic human conversation. Because we humans are flawed. We stop mid-sentence, we correct ourselves, use speech disfluencies (hmmms, uhs), sometimes we talk more than necessary and other times we omit important information. It takes a lot of processing power to overcome those obstacles. Just think of this as a really, really good chatbot. Only with a voice. Remember when restaurants needed to hire humans to take reservations? That's so yesterday. Just wait until Google's assistant confirms after-school pickup from the self-driving car.
While Mediastruction's expertise is in paid media, we tip our hats to the value of quality search-engine optimization. Read here this week's piece from the Association of National Advertisers about what you should be hearing from your SEO partner. And some of the tips are counter-intuitive, like, it's ok to hear "no" from time to time.
Well, That Should Help TV's Time-Spent Metric
Read this positive review of Facebook's virtual realty device, Oculus Go. It's only $200 and available on Amazon. One feature that really jumped out at me (pardon the pun) is that it immediately provides the user with an immersive, big-screen experience. "Flatscreen manufactures should be quaking in their boots." TV content includes CNN, BBC, Hulu, Netflix, Showtime...a great opportunity for brands to invest in high-recall, emotionally intense advertising.
How To Make Ads Binge-Worthy
And speaking of TV time-spent metric, read this interesting piece in MediaPost with tips on making advertising as addictive as Game of Thrones. OK, perhaps that's just a tad hyperbolic, but a girl can dream, right?
